My hard way to Germany

Never forget where you came from. Never forget the past. Never forget your roots. And never forget those who helped you in difficult times. People see only the success but not the journey behind it.

It was the night of 11th March 2006 when I struggled at Mumbai International Airport with the ground staff of Austrian Airways. Even having a valid Visa, a valid admission letter of an university in Germany and a valid flight ticket, they didn't allow me to take the flight to Germany for my Master studies. Can you imagine how I felt? Can you imagine the struggle and desperation of students coming from #India #Pakistan #Bangladesh etc.?

According to the ground staff my Visa was fake, my admission letter was fake and they said that I will throw my passport in Europe, tell everyone that I'm a refugee running from home, fake my name and will never come back. That's how they saw me. During the time when others were checking in I was begging, arguing, promising, reassuring and even crying. I went to the Airport Head, I went to the internet café at the airport to print out more information about student visa rules etc.

It was hard, very hard, but I had faith in me, I had faith in future. I was on a path. After hours of discussions they finally allowed me check in. Literally just a minute before departure. Thanks to one friendly immigration officer I was able to catch the flight when they were already closing the plane's door.

Why am I writing this today? I just found my flight ticket, which I kept, and I remembered like it happend just the day before yesterday.

My intention to share this memory is to motivate students coming from a middle class family who are or could be struggling with obstacles created by other people. To all who dare to dream and want to achieve that, should never forget that IF THERE IS A WILL, THERE IS A WAY!

Never give up, maybe your success is just one action away from you. And if you have achieved your goal then help others. The day before your life changes forever, feels just like any other day.

Thank you for reading.
